Celebrating the Calgary Stampede & Its History
It’s that time of the year again in Calgary where everyone grabs their cowboy hats and cowboy boots and saddles up for some western fun for the Calgary Stampede! Whether you are planning on heading down to the grounds yourself or not, there are lots of ways to get into the western spirit! The entire Clover Living community gets into the spirit with our own Stampede breakfast and themed Western days during the 10-day event! We even have contests for best get-up and Western wear!
If you’re planning on spending some time out and enjoying the festivities, remember to stay hydrated, and wear lots of sun protection! Last year’s Stampede featured numerous heat warnings meaning heat stroke can be a very real possibility, especially for older adults and seniors.
As much as we love flipping flapjacks and line dancing, the Calgary Stampede is full of rich history in Calgary, and the entire Southern Alberta region. The first rodeo dates back all the way to 1912, however the first agricultural fair dates to 1886, making it well over a 100-year-old tradition. As Calgary evolved from an agricultural community to an oil and gas city in the 1950’s, the rising population brought more eyes onto the Calgary Stampede, which began to solidify it as a true Calgary tradition. When you’re celebrating the Stampede, you’re not just celebrating the wild west, but the traditions and heritage that have made this city the community that it is today.
The spirit of the west is engrained in our roots (and boots), and whether you’re looking for an all-out western experience at the grounds or quietly celebrating by listening to a soft country song in the afternoon, you’re carrying the legacy forward for future generations to experience and enjoy.
With the entire city getting into the Stampede spirit, the Clover Living community is no different! Happy Stampeding from everyone at Clover Living!
